The beginning of something new... meet Popover!

Over the past year I've felt like everything has been coming together, Paul and I are back in LA, we're both deep into full time careers, and our home is nearing completion (minus all of the furniture and decor I'm mentally buying). The passing months have also proven difficult to maintain a full time blog. I've toyed with the idea of shelving the site, archiving the posts, and taking a break from the online world, but not having that creative outlet was a frightening thought. Plus, the support I've received from readers is so uplifting and something I am truly thankful for. As any creative person knows it's very easy to come up with an idea, try it out for a bit, then think of a new idea, try that one out, then leave a path of unfinished concepts along the way. This familiar pattern is probably why I am rambling right now.... Well, this little thought of closing up the blog kept nagging at me but I knew if I kept focusing on an end goal the process and way to get there would reveal itself. And so, the goal of creating an online lifestyle journal, a curated collection of stylish people, places, and products was set. All of this build up and I'm ready to announced that Stay in the Lines has become the precursor to a new endeavor and company called Popover!

Popover is a lifestyle journal that showcases not just my voice, but that of contributors and collaborators of the site. It's the place for stylish finds, go-to for entertaining ideas, clued-in friend for new destinations and not-to-miss spots, a cook’s, baker’s, and foodie’s resource, a creative collaborator, but most of all it captures the little bits of life and style that happen over morning coffee, lunch with friends, or cocktails at a party.

This isn't the end of my writing or lifestyle tips, but rather a new platform that I am incredibly excited to share with current and new readers. It's a way to be more dynamic, collaborate with new people, and share great finds that I can't do alone with the blog. I hope everyone enjoys the new website because I'm excited to share it and! Check out what I've been building (and my incredible husband has been coding) over these past months. I hope the old readers will follow me in this new direction and future readers will enjoy what is being built. I can't wait to see how Popover grows and matures in this next phase.

Thank you for all of the support! Visit Popover here.

A naturally glittering holiday table

Clockwise from upper right: runner / ceramic spoon / glitter spoon / platter / napkins / bread board / glass / bowl
Last weekend I made the mistake of going to Home Goods just to peruse the aisles. A cart full of holiday decor later I found myself pulling out unnecessary items while waiting in the checkout aisle...because who needs a bundle of red and green glitter branches. I did convince myself to hold onto several items that I plan on using for my holiday table this year and I've already begun envisioning the color scheme. Lately I've been drawn to minimal decor like rustic fabrics, white candles, and recycled glass, but I don't want to miss out on getting that cozy feeling in my home this season. To hold onto the clean feeling I'm planning on pairing natural materials with shimmery silver and metallics to recreate the luxe feel that a bit of glitter brings. The natural fabrics and wood keep the look from being too kitschy and makes it easier to actually live with the decor in your house pre and post holiday. This look also relies heavily on textures, so woven linen napkins, smooth ceramic, and petrified wood give a great balance of rough and soft when used together.

The playful pony with Dove Haircare

I'm teaming up with Dove again to talk about healthy hair. Last time I sang the praises of that second day curl that just can't be achieved with pristine and clean hair, but this time I'm sharing my favorite quick 'do, the playful ponytail. I have a dirty little secret that is slightly embarrassing, but well worth sharing, it's that I really don't brush my hair as I style it. One big blowout and the following looks are either slept in (stylishly of course) or quickly pulled together with my hands. By doing this I have overcome years of forcing, polishing, or combing my hair into a smooth and bump free ponytail. Embracing the effortless one-swipe grab always seem to result in the perfect pony. Here is a look at my recent playful pony on Instagram. The trick is to pull it up in one movement by running hands along the sides of your head with the thumbs along your neck. Gather everything in the back of your head, positioning the elastic in the middle and not too high up. Loosely rake the top part, but only pass through once or twice, then pull from the bottom while tightening the elastic. Since the look is meant to be messy the hair needs to be glossy and moisturized. After testing the Dove Haircare line for my wave, I found that it made my messy ponytail look just as healthy with the right amount of texture to give it an edge. Rake hands through the top of the head pulling forward every now and then to create a little height. Mist with a little hairspray and the look goes from work to dinner.

My version of the playful pony
