Nothing beats standing above the buildings overlooking towers of windows, peering into rooftop garden getaways, and seeing the sky stretch out in an unobstructed expanse...throw in a cocktail and the experience is truly perfect. While in New York I stayed at the Pod 51 Hotel, an exceptional small space "hostel" that rivals many of the conventional hotels in the city. Their 14 floors lead up to an incredible rooftop deck lined with vibrant Adirondack Chairs, a planked floor, and gorgeous views of the skyline, which are held back by a minimal black railing. The design of the space is purposely simple so that the real experience is the view, while the bright pops of color add a catching design that are both clean and modern. The space made me eager to design my own perched getaway and already has me dreaming of ways to re-create this modern rooftop. Using a few solid and sturdy pieces, I paired colorful chairs to add a bit of lightness and warming elements like a sleek tabletop fireplace and a neutral yet cozy throw. Together the setting becomes a comfortable environment that shines without over-shining the view.
